The Ministry of Education has clarified that the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used for grading Class 12 CBSE exams is reliable and has been in use since 2014, albeit with safeguards. School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar emphasized that OSM enhances evaluation flexibility, allowing for assessments outside regional office jurisdictions. This year, 98 lakh answer sheets were scanned, with three levels of security applied to ensure accuracy. In response to concerns about legibility, over 13,000 answer sheets were manually evaluated. To improve accessibility, the CBSE has significantly reduced re-evaluation fees to ₹100 and introduced a refund policy for students whose marks increase post-re-evaluation. Students will also be able to review their scanned answer sheets. The CBSE declared results on May 13, showing an 85% pass rate, a decline from the previous year. Private school representatives have welcomed these reforms, highlighting the need for ongoing feedback from stakeholders to enhance confidence in the evaluation process.
