The controversy surrounding the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) escalated as Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for his alleged incompetence and corruption within the board. Ramesh pointed out that despite the transfer of CBSE officials, Pradhan remains in office, protected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He raised concerns about the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, which has faced significant technical issues and missed deadlines for re-evaluations, causing frustration among students. Ramesh noted that a Parliamentary Standing Committee found the CBSE unable to answer questions regarding the OSM procurement process, highlighting a lack of accountability. In response to the growing scrutiny, the Centre has formed a one-member inquiry committee to investigate the procurement issues related to the OSM system. Meanwhile, the CBSE reported over 28,000 successful submissions on its re-evaluation portal but acknowledged ongoing user experience challenges. The situation reflects a broader discontent among students and even NDA voters regarding the minister's performance.
