Following backlash from fans on social media, the makers of the Tamil film Karuppu have decided to modify or remove a controversial dialogue referencing legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja. The production house, Dream Warrior Pictures, issued a statement expressing their utmost respect for Ilaiyaraaja and regretting any distress caused by the dialogue, which suggested that he might seek copyright protection. This line drew criticism as many perceived it as a jab at the composer’s well-known stance on copyright issues. The production team clarified that the dialogue was not intended as a personal remark and was part of a broader satirical context. They emphasized their intention was never to offend Ilaiyaraaja or undermine his contributions to music and cinema. The statement praised Ilaiyaraaja’s extraordinary impact on Indian cinema, noting that his work continues to inspire audiences globally. Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu features prominent actors Suriya Sivakumar and Trisha Krishnan and is being closely monitored as a possible comeback for Suriya after previous films did not perform well at the box office.
