After earning his Master's in Physics and a PhD in experimental high-energy astronomy, he published over 240 research papers, establishing himself as a leading figure in the field. As Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) from 1994 to 2003, Kasturirangan oversaw critical developments such as the operational success of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and the expansion of satellite programs. He is best known for initiating the Chandrayaan-1 mission, marking India's entry into lunar exploration. Beyond his contributions to space, Kasturirangan served in various influential roles, including as a member of the Rajya Sabha and as a key figure in shaping the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
