Saleem Wastik, a YouTuber known for his controversial views, was arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch in Ghaziabad for his role in the 1995 kidnapping and murder of 13-year-old Sandeep Bansal. The police confirmed Wastik's identity after he had been living under a false name for over two decades. He had absconded after securing interim bail in 2000, following his conviction and life sentence for the crime. The case dates back to January 1995 when Bansal was kidnapped while heading to school in northeast Delhi. Despite a ransom demand of ₹30,000 (approximately $360 USD), the child was murdered, and his body was later found in a drain. Wastik, who was teaching martial arts at the victim's school at the time, confessed to the crime during the investigation. He managed to evade capture by faking his own death and adopting a new identity, eventually becoming a YouTuber and social activist. His arrest follows a tip-off regarding his true identity, and he was apprehended while running a women's clothing shop in Loni, Ghaziabad. Earlier this year, Wastik was also attacked and critically injured in a stabbing incident.
