Gujarat Gas Limited (GGL), the largest city gas distribution company in India, has officially merged with Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) and Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL) as of May 1, 2026. This merger will create a more robust integrated energy company, now named Gujarat Energy Limited, which will focus on gas trading, exploration, production, and city gas distribution. The restructuring also involves the demerger of GSPL's gas transmission business into a new entity called GSPL Transmission Limited (GTL), which will operate a network of approximately 2,800 kilometers of gas pipelines across Gujarat. The Gujarat government will hold 38.80% of the new entity, ensuring significant state involvement in the energy sector. This merger aligns with the government’s vision to enhance Gujarat's energy landscape and support the domestic penetration of piped natural gas (PNG). The restructuring was approved by shareholders in October 2025, following positive recommendations from proxy advisors.
