The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is set to automate the final provident fund withdrawal process, enhancing efficiency in transferring funds directly to members' bank accounts. Currently, the EPFO processes partial withdrawal claims of up to ₹5 lakh (roughly $6,000 USD) through an automatic mode, with a three-day settlement deadline. Central Provident Fund Commissioner Ramesh Krishnamurthi announced this initiative during the ASSOCHAM's National Seminar on New Labour Codes, emphasizing that the automation will extend to final withdrawals and account transfers when members switch employers. This move is part of a broader effort to simplify and standardize the EPFO's operational framework under the newly notified labour codes, which were announced on May 8. The upcoming notifications will focus on integrating past learnings and recent decisions by the central board of trustees, aiming for a smoother withdrawal process. Union Labour Secretary Vandana Gurnani highlighted the government's commitment to balancing compliance with the need for a productive workforce.
