An investigation into a hooch tragedy in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad has revealed that 15 individuals have died after consuming methanol-laced illicit liquor. The prime accused is said to have procured over 200 litres of methanol through an online platform, falsely stating it was for perfume manufacturing. The deaths occurred between May 26 and May 28, with 11 fatalities in the Phugewadi-Dapodi area and 4 in Hadapsar. Seven others remain hospitalized, some in critical condition. The Maharashtra CID has arrested six suspects, including a transporter who diluted liquor with methanol to increase potency and profit margins. Investigators are also looking into additional deaths that may be linked to this incident. The case highlights serious lapses in regulatory oversight, as the supplier sold the chemical without proper documentation. Investigations continue as authorities seek to dismantle the illicit liquor network responsible for these tragic events.
