Vikas Gamit, a young engineer from Uteva village in Surat district, Gujarat, made a bold career shift from a high-paying IT job in Bengaluru to natural farming. Concerned about the adverse effects of chemical farming, he returned home in 2019 to promote healthy, chemical-free agriculture. Gamit developed a 'jungle model' farm that cultivates various crops sustainably, significantly reducing costs and enhancing soil health. His initiative received substantial support from the Gujarat government, which provided subsidies totaling ₹3,18,500 for project development. Gamit's annual earnings have surpassed ₹10 lakhs, outpacing his previous corporate salary. Additionally, he has diversified his income by establishing a dairy unit that produces branded desi ghee. His success story has inspired many young people in the region to consider farming as a viable and modern profession focused on sustainability and health, earning him recognition as a Young Progressive Farmer from the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
