In a groundbreaking development, Dubai has introduced the world’s first dedicated air taxi station located near Dubai International Airport (DBX). This facility, known as a “vertiport,” is designed for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, with significant contributions from Joby Aviation and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai. The air taxi service is expected to commence commercial operations by late 2026, aiming to transform urban mobility in the city. The station is projected to serve around 170,000 passengers annually and will drastically reduce travel times; for instance, the journey from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah, which typically takes 45-50 minutes by road, will be reduced to just 10 minutes by air. The facility will include passenger lounges, security screenings, and charging infrastructure, integrating air travel with existing ground transport services. This initiative is part of Dubai's broader strategy to enhance urban mobility and sustainability, aligning with its goal of becoming the first city to operate a fully functional aerial taxi service.
