West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of denying her permission for a public meeting in the Collin Lane area, while allowing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold a meeting shortly thereafter. Speaking at a public gathering in Jorasanko Assembly Constituency, she expressed her frustration over the ECI's decision, stating that she was explicitly informed that permission would not be granted for her meeting. Banerjee further alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is interfering with her campaign by deploying officers to delay her travel plans, citing an incident where her flight was held on the runway for 30 minutes. She claimed that the BJP is causing difficulties for her party, the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), in securing meeting permissions. The upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal will be held in two phases, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4, and the contest is expected to be fierce between the ruling AITC and the BJP, which aims to gain power after a strong performance in previous elections.
