In a case of cybercrime deception, a 41-year-old man from Mehsana, Gujarat, India, attempted to mislead investigators by filing a false complaint claiming he was cheated out of ₹77.5 lakh (approximately $93,000 USD) across 12 bank accounts. The Mehsana cybercrime police initiated an investigation after receiving a tip about suspicious bank accounts flagged on the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) portal. It was discovered that the man was operating multiple mule accounts at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank and Equitas Bank, used to facilitate fraudulent transactions across several states, including Gujarat, Telangana, Karnataka, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. So far, ₹14.1 lakh has been traced as fraudulent transactions linked to these accounts. The accused admitted to filing the false complaint, which police believe was an attempt to create a defensive cover and portray himself as a victim. A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including cheating and criminal conspiracy, and further investigations are ongoing to identify accomplices and trace additional transactions.
