The Praja Arogya Vedika (PAV) has formally requested Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav to establish a specialized health development package for North Andhra, highlighting the need for a dedicated budget to tackle pressing health issues. PAV representatives, including president M.V. Ramanaiah and general secretary T. Kameshwar Rao, noted that their recent visits to various districts revealed significant public health challenges. In the Uddanam region of Srikakulam district, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) remains a critical issue, while Parvathipuram Manyam district faces outbreaks of malaria and jaundice, alongside malnutrition and maternal health concerns. The forum also pointed out the need for enhanced healthcare facilities, including strengthening NTR Hospital in Anakapalli and expediting the establishment of a medical college in Makavarapalem. PAV called for the Palasa Kidney Hospital to be upgraded to a Centre of Excellence and for a scientific study on the effects of safe drinking water interventions on CKD prevalence. Additionally, they proposed developing Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) as a premier institution for tertiary care and research.
