Congress MP Manickam Tagore has accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of planning an alliance with its traditional rival, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), prompting Congress to exit the coalition. In a social media statement, Tagore criticized the DMK and AIADMK's sudden partnership as a mere tactic to safeguard their political power. Following the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the largest party with 108 seats, Congress has decided to support TVK, which is now looking to form a government. The majority required in the 234-member Assembly is 118 seats, leaving TVK short by 10 seats. The DMK, once a dominant force, secured only 59 seats, while AIADMK won 47 seats. Smaller parties, including Congress, which obtained five seats, are becoming increasingly important in the evolving political scenario. The TVK's president, Vijay, must vacate one of his two winning constituencies, reducing their effective tally to 107 seats and widening the gap to the majority mark to 11 seats.
