Sanjeev Arora, the Punjab industries and power minister, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Chandigarh for his alleged role in a ₹157 crore GST fraud involving fake invoices from non-existent firms. Raghav Chadha, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) member who recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), criticized AAP's leadership, claiming it has led Punjab from prosperity to poverty. He stated that the party has betrayed its mandate and the people of Punjab, pointing to reports of ₹21 lakh in cash being thrown from a balcony during the ED raid. Chadha expressed disillusionment with AAP's internal dynamics, describing it as a toxic environment where dissent was not tolerated. This arrest marks the third ED raid on Arora within a year, as the agency investigates allegations of financial misconduct involving ₹102.5 crore routed through shell companies based in the UAE. Chadha's recent political shift, along with six other MPs, raises concerns about AAP's viability in the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
