This meeting is crucial as it marks Iran's first significant diplomatic engagement since conflicts intensified in the region. BRICS, which expanded in 2024 to include Iran and other countries, serves as a platform for discussing economic cooperation and geopolitical stability. Iran seeks to leverage this meeting to advocate for BRICS to take a more proactive stance in addressing the crisis in West Asia, a message Araghchi reportedly communicated to India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in March. The meeting will also facilitate the first direct discussions between Iranian officials and their Emirati and Saudi counterparts since the outbreak of the war.
