The Madras High Court in Chennai has reserved its orders on a petition filed by K R Periyakaruppan, a former minister and candidate of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), who is seeking to restrain R Srinivasa Sethupathi, the MLA-elect from the Tamil Nadu Vizhuthugal Katchi (TVK), from taking his oath. Sethupathi won the Tirupattur assembly constituency in Sivaganga district by a narrow margin of just one vote, receiving 83,365 votes against Periyakaruppan's 83,364 votes. The DMK leader has also requested a recount of the votes. The court, comprising Justices L Victoria Gowri and N Senthilkumar, heard detailed arguments from both sides and held a special sitting on the matter before reserving its decision.
