On Monday, Guwahati police successfully dismantled a large betting racket linked to the Indian Premier League (IPL) final match. The operation, which was the result of extensive intelligence gathering, led to the arrest of Alok Jain, the primary accused, who had been involved in illegal gambling activities for an extended period. The raid occurred while the match was ongoing, highlighting the urgency and effectiveness of the police's actions. Authorities seized a significant amount of electronic devices, including 16 mobile phones, two laptops, and two monitors, all of which were used for live streaming the match. In addition to these devices, police recovered ₹80,000 in cash, a large quantity of jewellery, luxury vehicles, and about 26 land documents pertaining to various properties in Guwahati. The operation was spearheaded by the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, supported by a specialized team of officers. Further details regarding the investigation are expected to emerge soon.
