The All India Mahila Congress is intensifying its demand for enhanced political representation for women by meeting with Rahul Gandhi in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh, on Thursday. Surbhi Verma, the AICC secretary and state Mahila Congress in-charge, stated that the organization is advocating for structural changes to secure 33% representation for women in legislative bodies and within the party. This meeting coincides with Gandhi's participation in a training workshop for district presidents from Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh. The Mahila Congress is urging the Leader of Opposition to support the immediate implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, which seeks guaranteed 33% reservation across all 543 Lok Sabha seats. Verma accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of stalling the process while women across the country unite to fight for their rights. Although active street protests in Himachal Pradesh are currently paused due to the Model Code of Conduct for upcoming panchayati raj elections, the organization plans to resume demonstrations and mobilize support nationwide to push for their long-standing demand.
