The Indian government has announced an extension of the minimum import price (MIP) on virgin multi-layer paper board until September 30, 2026. The MIP, initially imposed in August 2025, is set at ₹67,220 (approximately $810 USD) per metric ton based on Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF) value. This regulation aims to safeguard domestic manufacturers by preventing imports below this price threshold. The virgin multi-layer paper board is widely utilized in the packaging of pharmaceuticals, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), food and beverages, electronics, high-end cosmetics, liquor, book covers, and publishing. Consequently, any imports priced below the MIP will not be permitted, thereby reinforcing local production.
