A survey conducted by Talker Research, commissioned by Skechers, reveals that over half of Americans (56%) frequently buy shoes they later regret due to discomfort. This issue is significant considering that the average person takes nearly three million steps and walks about 1,200 miles annually. Respondents reported wasting an average of $279 on painful shoes that they ultimately do not wear. The discomfort experienced from these shoes can last up to two days, with pain affecting the feet (67%), back (43%), knees (31%), ankles (29%), and hips (21%). Many noted that enjoyable events like nights out and vacations have been spoiled by uncomfortable footwear. The survey also indicated a shift towards prioritizing comfort, especially among runners, with 65% admitting to previously choosing shoes based on appearance rather than support. As running becomes increasingly popular, particularly among Gen Z, the need for supportive footwear is emphasized. Skechers aims to address these concerns with their new AERO shoes, highlighting the importance of proper footwear for both casual wearers and runners.
