In West Bengal, only 139 names were included in the final voter rolls for the first phase of the assembly election after being cleared by appellate tribunals. These individuals were previously categorized as 'unmapped voters' and faced rejection by judicial officers. In contrast, 2.71 million voters were deleted due to logical discrepancies, with approximately 1.4 million affected in the constituencies voting in this phase. The 19 appellate tribunals, which took time to become operational, resolved 657 cases related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Supreme Court's recent ruling allowed voters cleared by tribunals to participate in the election, significantly easing restrictions on voter lists. A total of 36 million voters are eligible to cast their votes across 152 constituencies. The Election Commission published updated electoral rolls, including names cleared by the tribunals, ahead of the Supreme Court-mandated deadline of April 21.
