Pankaj Chaudhary, the Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief, stated that the Women Reservation Bill will play a crucial role in the upcoming 2027 state assembly elections. During a press briefing in Noida, he announced the launch of the 'Jan Aakrosh Mahila Abhiyan' campaign aimed at promoting the bill. The bill, which seeks to reserve a certain percentage of seats for women in legislative bodies, was previously defeated in the Lok Sabha on April 17 due to the government's failure to secure a two-thirds majority, with 298 members voting in favor and 230 against. Chaudhary criticized opposition parties, particularly the Samajwadi Party and Congress, for their opposition to the bill, claiming they favor dynastic politics over women's empowerment. He asserted that the BJP is committed to enhancing women's rights, citing an increase in working women in Uttar Pradesh to 36-37% over the past nine years. In response, opposition leaders accused the BJP of misleading the public and failing to deliver on promises regarding women's reservation and safety.
