Peelander-Z, an Austin-based Japanese punk band, is currently hospitalized after a serious accident on May 18 in New Mexico, where a semi-truck rear-ended their tour van on Interstate 40. The band members, known as Yellow (Kengo), Pink (Yumi), and Tiger, sustained traumatic injuries including broken bones and organ damage. Their agent, Brad Raffenaud, described the incident as “really bad,” but noted that hospital reports are encouraging, with all members conscious and stable. A benefit concert is set for May 29 at the InsideOut venue in Albuquerque, where local musicians will perform to support the trio's recovery. Additionally, the band has launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised nearly $170,000 to assist with medical expenses. Kengo is being monitored for a traumatic brain injury, while Yumi has suffered multiple fractures and abdominal injuries. Tiger is expected to be discharged soon, but all three will require extensive rehabilitation.
