Barrie residents can now enjoy an extended period of free parking at the city’s waterfront areas, as the City of Barrie has announced that digital waterfront parking permits will remain valid until December 31, 2028. This extension means that residents will not need to renew their permits through the HotSpot app or visit City Hall for the next several years. The permits, which are free for residents, allow parking at several key locations providing easy access to Barrie’s beaches. Any digital permits issued between 2022 and 2028 will automatically remain valid until the new expiration date. For non-residents, a permit can be purchased for $150, which is valid for one calendar year, with permits issued this year set to expire on December 31, 2026. Residents who do not yet have a digital waterfront permit can apply in person at Service Barrie or community centers, such as the Peggy Hill Team Community Centre and the East Bayfield Community Centre, or digitally via the HotSpot app. This initiative aims to enhance the accessibility of Barrie's waterfront areas for both residents and visitors alike.
