On May 2, 2023, a decomposed leopard carcass was found in a sugarcane field in Limbodi village, located in Ashti taluka of Beed district, Maharashtra, India. The leopard, estimated to be 12 years old, is believed to have died 6 to 8 days prior to its discovery. Forest Range Officer Amol Munde and a veterinary team investigated the site after receiving reports. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, no post-mortem examination could be conducted, and no samples were collected for laboratory testing, leaving the exact cause of death undetermined. However, officials noted that the leopard's teeth, claws, and other body parts were intact, ruling out poaching. They suggested that the animal may have succumbed to old age or extreme heat.
