Tensions flared in Bhangar, South 24 Parganas, during the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, as the Indian Secular Front (ISF) alleged that its polling agents were threatened by supporters of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). Reports indicated that in Canning Purba constituency, one ISF agent at booth number 142 received death threats, prompting ISF candidate Arabul Islam to accuse the administration of failing to maintain order and allowing voter intimidation. He claimed that TMC supporters were driving ISF agents out of polling booths and snatching their credentials. ISF chairman and local MLA Naushad Siddique echoed these concerns, alleging that police were favoring the ruling party and not ensuring a fair election process. In response, the TMC denied these allegations, suggesting that the ISF was attempting to create unrest. Security was heightened in Bhangar, with the deployment of state police, central forces, and a special team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to monitor the situation due to past incidents of political violence in the area. The unrest followed previous clashes between TMC and ISF supporters, which left several injured, including a woman.
