In a tragic incident on Wednesday morning, a senior citizen was fatally struck by a pick-up truck while waiting in line for subsidized rice in Quezon City, Philippines. The accident occurred around 4 a.m. at the Bureau of Animal Industry office on Visayas Avenue. The driver, a 46-year-old male operating a Nissan Navara, allegedly hit the victim, who was queuing to purchase rice from the Department of Agriculture. Following the collision, the vehicle continued moving and collided with a roadside sign, damaging both the sign and the truck. Despite being rushed to East Avenue Medical Center, the victim was pronounced dead at 5:02 a.m. Investigators are still determining the cause of the crash. Although the driver was initially facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, he has reportedly settled with the victim's family, leading to his release from custody. The Quezon City Police District has expressed condolences and reminded motorists to adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.
