The operation was prompted by a complaint from Muttappa Hullappa Nayakar, a 40-year-old farmer from Belaganti in the Badami taluk. Nayakar reported that a man was unlawfully detained at the Kerur police station for two days without formal procedures after being picked up from a petrol pump in relation to a suspected gambling case. The detainee was released only after an oral agreement to pay ₹2 lakh, while his motorcycle was held back at the station. Following the complaint, Lokayukta officials set a trap and caught Biradar accepting the bribe, which was negotiated down to ₹1.7 lakh. Both Biradar and a police sub-inspector (PSI) were arrested during the operation led by Lokayukta SP and DSP Suresh Reddy MS. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
