The Union Cabinet of India has approved the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) 5.0, allocating ₹18,100 crore to assist micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and airlines facing financial difficulties due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. This scheme is expected to facilitate an additional credit flow of up to ₹2.55 lakh crore, with ₹5,000 crore specifically earmarked for the airline sector. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw detailed that the scheme aims to alleviate liquidity stress by providing a 100% credit guarantee for MSMEs and a 90% guarantee for non-MSMEs and airlines through the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company Limited (NCGTC). Eligible borrowers, including MSMEs and scheduled passenger airlines with outstanding credit facilities as of March 31, 2026, can avail additional credit of up to 20% of their peak working capital utilized in the fourth quarter of FY26, capped at ₹100 crore for MSMEs and ₹1,500 crore for airlines, subject to conditions.
