The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) significant win in West Bengal could enable the resumption of various Central government schemes that have faced hurdles due to past political conflicts. Experts highlight the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), now replaced by the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (VB-G RaM G), as a primary example. The Union government had previously withheld funds, citing corruption and mismanagement, with pending liabilities for West Bengal reaching ₹3,082.52 crore. If VB-G RaM G is successfully implemented, other schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) and the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) could also benefit. Currently, only 56.46% of rural households in West Bengal have access to tap water, with only 53% of allocated funds for JJM utilized. The Ayushman Bharat scheme has faced challenges since its implementation in 2018, with the state withdrawing from it shortly after. The BJP's victory may signal a shift in the state's approach to these Central schemes, potentially enhancing their effectiveness and reach.
