On Saturday, Delhi recorded its first heatwave day of the summer, with temperatures soaring to 42.8°C, which is 5.1°C above normal levels. In response, hospitals across the city, including Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, have resumed operations at specialized heatwave clinics. These clinics are equipped with essential cooling facilities, such as ceramic immersion tubs and ice-making refrigerators, to treat patients suffering from heat-related ailments. Dr. Ajay Chauhan, in charge of the unit, emphasized the importance of immediate cooling therapy for patients experiencing heat exhaustion, as delayed treatment can lead to severe complications. While no confirmed heatstroke cases have been reported yet this season, hospitals are seeing an increase in heat exhaustion cases and are prepared with cold intravenous fluids and ice packs. Other hospitals, including Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital, are also enhancing their emergency services to manage potential heat-related health issues.
