Patients visiting major government hospitals in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, are enduring significant hardships due to a lack of basic amenities, particularly in the sweltering heat. At Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hospital, many patients and their attendants are forced to wait under tin sheds as cooling systems fail, with some waiting for hours without relief. Ram Kishore Yadav, a patient’s attendant, expressed frustration over the non-functional fans in the area. The hospital’s chief medical superintendent, Dr. Devesh Pandey, acknowledged the issue and mentioned plans for repairs and expansions. Similarly, King George’s Medical University (KGMU) is experiencing similar challenges, with inadequate shelter for attendants, leaving them exposed to harsh weather. A spokesperson, Prof. KK Singh, indicated that a new shelter home is under construction to improve conditions. At Balrampur Hospital, patients reported locked washrooms and broken coolers, highlighting the need for urgent improvements. While some hospitals like Ram Manohar Lohia Institute provide adequate facilities, the overall situation remains concerning as patient numbers rise during summer. Immediate action is necessary to enhance public healthcare infrastructure in Lucknow.
