The Delhi High Court has issued a fresh notice to Arvind Kejriwal, the chief of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in response to pleas from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) contesting his acquittal in two cases related to the excise policy. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma noted that the previous notice had not been served to Kejriwal, prompting the issuance of a new notice. The ED's counsel argued that the trial court made an error in acquitting Kejriwal, stating that he failed to appear before the agency despite receiving summonses. The trial court had previously ruled that the ED did not sufficiently prove that Kejriwal intentionally disobeyed the summonses. The case is scheduled for a hearing on July 22. Currently, Kejriwal is on interim bail while the Supreme Court has referred questions regarding the necessity of his arrest under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to a larger bench for further examination. The trial court had discharged Kejriwal and others in the liquor policy case, stating that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case lacked judicial merit, with the CBI's appeal against this discharge still pending in the high court.
