Amazon has announced a significant investment of up to $25 billion in Anthropic, an AI company known for its Claude models. This investment includes an immediate $5 billion and up to an additional $20 billion contingent on commercial milestones. In return, Anthropic has committed to spending over $100 billion on Amazon Web Services (AWS) over the next decade, reflecting a deepening relationship between the two companies. This partnership is seen as a strategic move in the competitive landscape of AI, particularly as both companies prepare for potential initial public offerings (IPOs). Anthropic has already secured 5 gigawatts of capacity for training its AI models and plans to enhance this with AWS's custom silicon chips. Amazon, which has previously invested $8 billion in Anthropic, is also focusing on expanding its AI infrastructure, with projected capital expenditures of around $200 billion this year. The announcement has positively impacted Amazon's stock, which rose approximately 2.7% in after-hours trading.
