C Joseph Vijay, president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, marking what he described as the beginning of 'real secular social justice.' In his inaugural address, Vijay promised to implement transparent governance and release a 'white paper' detailing the state's financial status, which he claims has been left in a dire condition with a debt exceeding ₹10 lakh crore (approximately $1.2 trillion USD). He assured citizens that he would not make false promises and emphasized the importance of public welfare. Key initiatives include providing 200 units of free electricity to domestic consumers, establishing special forces for women's safety, and creating anti-drug trafficking units. Vijay also highlighted the need to focus on essential services such as education, healthcare, and public distribution systems. He expressed his commitment to equality among all communities, stating that his government would support everyone, regardless of past grievances. The TVK party won 108 seats in the April 23 Assembly polls and formed a coalition with the Congress and other parties, while Congress is expected to have representation in the cabinet.
