In response to the recent storm that struck Bengaluru, Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to identify and remove dilapidated buildings and compound walls that pose a risk of collapse. This decision comes after a tragic incident at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital, where a collapsing wall killed seven people, including a child. The storm, which included heavy rains and strong winds, caused significant damage to both public and private property. The Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent further incidents. The GBA is now mobilizing special teams composed of Fire and Emergency Services personnel, police, and city officials to monitor and address hazardous conditions. Notably, a 240-meter-long compound wall was demolished in Malleswaram, and additional unsafe structures are being assessed for removal. Authorities are committed to ensuring public safety as the threat of further heavy rains persists.
