Air India, one of India's leading airlines, is set to reduce its international flight operations from May through July due to a significant rise in jet fuel prices and airspace restrictions linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The airline has reported losses exceeding ₹22,000 crore (approximately $2.65 billion USD) for the financial year ending March 31, 2026. CEO Campbell Wilson informed employees that many routes have become unprofitable, necessitating the reduction of services to destinations in Europe, North America, Australia, and Singapore. The airline's domestic operations have also faced challenges, but the impact has been less severe due to government regulations limiting fuel price increases. Despite raising airfares and imposing fuel surcharges to offset rising costs, demand has been negatively affected. The Federation of Indian Airlines has expressed concerns to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, stating that current aviation fuel prices are unsustainable for the industry, which is already under extreme stress due to the geopolitical situation and soaring costs.
