India's parliamentary panel on petroleum and natural gas is scheduled to review the country's domestic production of fuels on May 15. This meeting comes amid energy supply constraints exacerbated by disruptions in West Asia, particularly affecting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) availability due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Although the government claims that petrol and diesel supplies are adequate, concerns about LPG shortages have led to panic buying in various regions. The ministry has emphasized that there are no reports of dry-outs at LPG distributorships and that refineries are operating at high capacity with sufficient crude oil stocks. Additionally, the panel will assess fertilizer availability for the upcoming kharif crop season, with current stocks at approximately 19.57 million tonnes, which is about 50% of the projected requirement. The government has implemented booking caps for LPG cylinders to manage the supply crunch, reflecting India's reliance on imports for nearly 90% of its LPG needs.
