During the 8th India-Indonesia Joint Commission Meeting, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's visit as the Chief Guest for India's Republic Day in 2025. This visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established between the two nations. Jaishankar welcomed the Indonesian delegation and outlined the potential for expanded cooperation across various sectors, including defense, trade, health, education, and cultural exchanges. The meeting, which follows a four-year hiatus, aims to review and enhance commitments made during President Prabowo's previous state visit. The discussions also build on recent diplomatic engagements, particularly a meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono in May 2024. Additionally, the two countries have maintained robust security cooperation, underscored by a Memorandum of Understanding on Counter Terrorism. The evolving relationship between India and Indonesia is seen as pivotal for regional cooperation, particularly within ASEAN frameworks.
