In preparation for the counting of votes from the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, the Election Commission (EC) has announced a robust security plan involving over 100,000 personnel. A three-tier security system will be implemented at 62 counting centres across the state, with nearly 20,000 security staff stationed in Chennai alone. Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik detailed the security measures, which include a 100-metre restricted perimeter around each centre, entry regulation by State Armed Police, and management of the innermost areas by the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). The counting process will commence at 8 AM with postal ballots, followed by EVM counting at 8:30 AM. The EC has also introduced a QR code-based photo identity system via its mobile app to enhance security. The results will be announced by returning officers and made available on the ECINET app and the official results portal.
