South America is increasingly recognizing the strategic significance of India, particularly through Argentina's initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations. During the India-Latin America and Caribbean Roundtable, Argentine Ambassador Mariano Caucino emphasized the economic complementarity between India and Argentina, noting that India has become Argentina's sixth largest trading partner. The ambassador highlighted Argentina's role as a key supplier of edible oils, contributing to India's food security. He pointed out that India's growth as one of the world's fastest economies necessitates increased investment and cooperation from South America. The relationship was elevated to a strategic partnership in 2019, with Argentina establishing a General Consulate in Mumbai and an Agriculture Attache office in Delhi. Additionally, Indian mining investments in Argentina are expanding, particularly in lithium, copper, and gold, which are crucial for India's electric vehicle sector. The anticipated visit of Prime Minister Modi to Argentina in July 2025 is expected to further solidify these ties.
