In a groundbreaking shift in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is poised to become the single-largest party in the state Assembly, leading in over 100 seats. This marks the end of a five-decade-long bipolar Dravidian political system. Chief Minister M K Stalin suffered a notable defeat in the Kolathur constituency against TVK's V S Babu, a former DMK ally. By 7 pm, TVK had won around 51 seats and was leading in 57, while the incumbent Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) secured 24 seats and led in 35. The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won 20 seats and was leading in 26. TVK garnered approximately 34.91% of the vote share, while the DMK and AIADMK received 24% and 21%, respectively. Notably, Udhayanidhi Stalin retained his seat despite the overall loss for the DMK. The election results have drawn congratulations from national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.
