On Saturday, Nanan Academy organized a STEM showcase titled 'Ideas to Impact' at the Saskatchewan Science Centre, featuring approximately 25 students who presented their innovative projects in areas such as robotics, 3D design, and video game development. One standout project was by Favour Oduwole, a third-year computer engineering technology student at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, who displayed his capstone project, a six-legged robot named 'ArachnodeEdu.' Oduwole spent five months developing this robot using the Robot Operating System 2 (ROS 2), an open-source framework that simplifies the creation of complex robotic systems. He explained the technical aspects of his project, including using a PS5 controller and a Raspberry Pi Five for processing. Oduwole emphasized the vast opportunities in robotics, particularly in automation and agriculture, and expressed his desire to collaborate with Nanan Academy to educate future students about ROS 2. His work aims to serve as a proof of concept, demonstrating what can be achieved with dedication and creativity in a short timeframe.
