The Union Jal Shakti Ministry, led by Minister C R Patil, has referred two separate corruption cases involving senior officials from the Water and Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS) and the National Projects Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further investigation. On April 24, both CPSEs requested the CBI to file First Information Reports (FIRs) against the implicated officials. The NPCC is investigating its Executive Director, Dharmendra Mudgal, for allegedly demanding money related to project works, with an audio recording submitted as evidence. Mudgal has been suspended as of April 23. Meanwhile, WAPCOS is looking into a case of forgery that resulted in a financial loss of ₹1.91 crore (approximately $230,000 USD) concerning the North Koel Reservoir Project in Jharkhand. Four WAPCOS officials, including Chief Executive Director R K Agrawal, are involved, with Agrawal's lien terminated and other officials facing various disciplinary actions. This initiative is part of a broader anti-corruption campaign within the ministry, which has already seen previous referrals to the CBI for fraud in other projects.
