In a significant move for farmers, the Madhya Pradesh government has extended the deadline for wheat procurement slot bookings to May 23, 2026. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced this two-week extension from the previous deadline of May 9 to ensure that no cultivator misses out on the Price Support Scheme. As of May 2, the state has procured 34.73 metric tonnes of wheat, with ₹600 crore allocated for the current season. The government has also set procurement targets of 6.49 lakh metric tonnes for chickpeas and 6.01 lakh metric tonnes for lentils, while a proposal for 1.31 lakh metric tonnes of pigeon pea has been submitted to the central government. To enhance storage capacity, approximately 3.55 lakh metric tonnes have been created under the Foodgrain Storage Scheme. Furthermore, the state is advancing digital agriculture through initiatives like the e-Kisan system, which provides farmers with a unique ID for their land and crops, facilitating crop insurance and damage assessment. Yadav emphasized that Madhya Pradesh is a leader in natural farming, with over 53 lakh hectares under cultivation and more than 6,000 clusters established.
