Thailand has enacted eight new rules to regulate alcohol sales and consumption in public spaces, effective May 2026. The revisions aim to modernize outdated legislation and enhance public safety. Key changes include a ban on alcohol sales in public parks, temples, government offices, and transportation facilities. Retailers will be allowed to sell alcohol from 11:00 AM to 12:00 AM (midnight), with a temporary lifting of the afternoon ban from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM for a trial period. Violations, such as drinking in prohibited areas or outside allowed hours, may incur fines of up to 10,000 Baht (approximately $290 USD) and potential imprisonment for up to six months.
