A severe storm hit Patna, Bihar, on May 9, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to five others. The storm, with wind speeds reaching 135 km/h, prompted a swift response from multiple departments, including the Municipal Corporation and Electricity Department, to clear blocked routes and restore essential services. Bihar's District Magistrate, Thiyagarajan S M, confirmed the ongoing efforts to manage the aftermath, although full recovery may take time due to the extensive damage. Additionally, Bihar Minister Ratnesh Sada reported that the storm claimed a total of nine lives across the state. In response, the government has announced immediate relief payments of ₹4 lakh (approximately $4,800 USD) for each victim's family. A comprehensive damage assessment is underway across all 38 districts of Bihar, and the government plans to implement new construction safety mandates to prevent future disasters. Furthermore, awareness campaigns will be initiated to educate residents on building earthquake-resistant homes. The India Meteorological Department has also forecasted light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms across Bihar from May 10 to 12.
