On Friday, the Delhi government launched the Road RADAR program, a real-time road pollution monitoring initiative designed to tackle the city's pollution issues. Under this program, 13 surveyors equipped with GPS-enabled bikes will survey 18,000 km of road space across Delhi's districts. Each surveyor will monitor a minimum of 20 km of roads daily, focusing on identifying 11 key pollution sources, including unpaved roads, garbage burning, and construction waste. The surveyors will use the MCD-311 mobile app to upload at least 70 geo-tagged surveys each day, generating a target of around 1,000 identified issues daily for enforcement agencies. Delhi's environment minister, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, emphasized the need for a scientific approach to improving air quality, stating that the program is a critical part of a broader strategy under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Experts have welcomed the initiative but highlighted the necessity for transparency in the data collected to ensure its effectiveness.
