The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), located in Mumbai, is set to organize a national-level brainstorming session focused on the preparation of social science textbooks. This initiative comes in response to ongoing concerns regarding the content of such textbooks, particularly those published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), which have faced criticism for instances of political revisionism. Vice-Chancellor Badrinarayan Tiwari emphasized the need for academic discussions to address these issues, stating that the goal is to create a platform for experts to propose improvements and ensure textbooks present multiple perspectives. The symposium will include members from various textbook committees and subject experts, aiming to develop guiding principles for future textbook creation. Additionally, TISS plans to establish a Viksit Bharat Centre to facilitate policy-related research and enhance the connection between academic findings and government decision-making. The recent convocation at TISS saw 1,080 students graduate, highlighting the institute's commitment to education and research.
